NBB # 4 / 26TH/ 27TH JULY 2025/ THE FRAGILITY OF LIFE

Siddhi: Hi, Jui! What’s the plan for the day?

Jui: Just the usual exercise…

Siddhi: You mean the morning sports? MD? —

Jui: That yes, but also the everyday run: behind marks. Behind approval. Behind things that seem urgent now, but will become a blur later.

Siddhi: Hmm…We run so fast, we sometimes forget to ask—what are we even running towards? We chase goals like a finish line, but we forget the actual destination. Which, let’s be honest, is to just be… happy.

Jui: And we all have these neat little plans in our heads. Step one: ace the test. Step two: figure out our life. Step three: be successful by age 25. We hope life will unfold exactly as we imagined. Like some well-behaved Excel sheet. But here’s the thing—it rarely does.

Siddhi: It’s strange—how life works. One moment, you’re walking in the sun, smiling… laughing, and the very next moment, it could all just disappear!
The last few months have been a harsh reminder of that truth. That bitter, quiet truth—that life is incredibly fragile.

Jui: Yes, this year has shown us this like never before. The massive forest fires in California and Haiti, the stampede at the Mahakumbh…

Siddhi: A terrorist attack—followed by the India-Pakistan conflict, sudden and brutal. Sirens, bombs, families torn apart, children with eyes full of questions and no answers. And then, the unfortunate Air India plane crash. Fathers, mothers, students, dreamers—none of them making it home.

Jui: It felt like every headline carried another name… another life… lost. And sometimes accidents happen closer to home, ones that we had not envisaged. We are relieved that our young friend who was hurt at school is getting better.

Siddhi: And no, we’re not saying this to scare you. We say it because the future is unknowable—and the present is all we ever actually have.

Jui: So, pause. Just stop running for a moment. Close your eyes. Feel your heartbeat.

You're alive. You're here. And for now, you're okay. Also remember, your own well-being is in your own hands. Educate yourself on how best to stay safe, whether it’s in school or when you’re travelling to a different place.

Siddhi: And you will find that that is often enough. Because if life is fragile, maybe awareness is power.

Jui: Tonight, take a moment… hold close those we love, resolve to speak kinder words, to slow down and feel grateful.
Because nothing—not power, not money, not fame—can protect us from the truth:
Life is fleeting.

Siddhi: And so, we must live it… like it matters.
